The Platinum Gel CoolSleep, along with The Pure Gel CoolSleep, are the two models of Aero-Pedic CoolSleep memory foam mattresses by Parklane RV Mattresses which feature gel. In these two models, this is a 2" top layer of gel foam.
Gel was used in foams originally for its supportive feature. Gel is a solid which acts like a liquid in some respects, such as the way it supports weight, by contouring to the shape of the object. It was after this gel's cooling effect was observed: like a liquid, gel is a good heat conductor.
In The Platinum Gel CoolSleep, the second layer down is 2" of 5-lb. CoolSleep memory foam, essentially the same as Aerus Memory Foam made by FXI (formerly Foamex). The claim is that the open-cell structure of this foam allows more cooling air to flow through than in most open-cell foams.
These two layers rest on a 4" support layer of 2-lb. support foam, bringing it to 8" high. The foams in The Platinum are formed using a technical process called Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF). The advantage of VPF is enhanced durability of the foam.
The Platinum Gel CoolSleep RV Mattress is compressed and rolled to be packaged, saving space for UPS shipping. Once the mattress is expanded and aired out, it cannot be re-rolled—this requires special equipment.
The Platinum Gel CoolSleep can be ordered directly from Parklane RV Mattresses. Parklane Mattresses has a 30-Day Return/Exchange Policy and covers this model with their Bronze Warranty (10 years with the first two non-prorated).
