The Thurman is the higher of two models currently listed as
Green Mattresses by
Parklane Mattresses. The other one is 9"
The Powell.
These mattresses are decribed as "Eco-Friendly."
Parklane says, "Our Green Mattresses are recyclable from top to bottom. We also boast a variety of eco-friendly knit covers, including Organic Cotton, Natural Bamboo, and even an Aloe Vera infused fabric." The one key ingredient in the green claim is
latex. These Green Mattresses have multiple layers of all natural Talalay latex, made from the sap of rubber trees (
Helvea brasiliensis). Natural latex is naturally biodegradable, anti-microbial, and hypoallergenic.
The Thurman's support begins in a 5" support core of HR foam which rests on a 2" base of HD foam. These
Parklane Mattresses foams are plant-based, reducing the use of petroleum-derived oils. Foam encasement of these and other layers provides edge support for the mattress. The firmness level of this model is Medium.
Atop the support core of
The Thurman are two layers of
Talatech latex made by
Latex International. This is a proprietary form of Talalay latex. All natural, it has the characteristics of latex as described above. Its anti-microbial property resists mildew, mold and bacteria. Latex is naturally resilient (it has the "bounce" rubber is known for). Latex also has some conformity, and dampens motiion transfer.
Conformity and cooling are the advertised features of the top layer in
The Thurman. It is
Parklane's
Preserve® Memory Foam. The company says it "is designed to sleep cooler than traditional memory foam."
The
cover of
The Thurman is infused with bamboo, which is resistant to allergens (like dust mites) and bacteria.
The recommended
foundation for
The Thurman is the
Parklane Mattresses wood slat foundation. It has closely spaced wood slats for even support. With 14 slats (10 in Twin Size),
Parklane calls it foundations "the strongest units in the industry." This foundation is covered with durable fabric. It is available in two heights: 9" Standard or 4" Low Profile.
The warranty on
The Thurman is
Parklane Mattresses's 25-year Gold. There is no charge for covered repairs or replacement for the first 15 years. Coverage for the remaining 10 years is prorated.
