Therapedic Buoyancy
The
Buoyancy collection was introduced by
Therapedic in Summer 2013 with four models named after four of the world's oceans:
Arctic,
Indian,
Atlantic and
Pacific. In Fall 2013,
Therapedic unveiled a fifth model,
Oceanic.
Buoyancy mattresses feature gel-latex. The top one-inch, 14 ILD layer of latex has a fused gel overlay in
Therapedic's signature hourglass shape to provide cooling support corresponding to the shoulders, lumbar and hips. According to
Therapedic, "This exclusive feature increases support by 18% at the shoulders and hips and 13% at the lumbar area." The remaining layers differ by model to tailor each model to a specific firmness level.
The primary support of each
Buoyancy collection mattress is a polyurethane foam block. This is 8" thick in the
Arctic and
Indian, 7" in the
Atlantic and
Pacific. The primary differences are in the intermediate layers.
Arctic - The 11"
Arctic is the entry model in the
Buoyancy line. It has two 1" polyurethane layers between the base and the gel-latex. From the bottom, they are progressively softer, from 31 ILD in the base to 20 in layer #3.
Indian - This 12" model has two layers between the top layer and the base. The lower one is 2" of 20 ILD Polyurethane foam. The next is 1" of 14 ILD latex foam.
Atlantic - The 13"
Atlantic has three intermediate layers, The base foam is 24 ILD, and the comfort polyurethane 20. Above these are two layers of 19 ILD latex foam.
Pacific - The 14"
Pacific was the high-end model of the original four
Buoyancy mattresses. The bottom two layers are like those in the
Atlantic, except that the comfort PU is 3" thick. Above these are three 1" layers of 14 ILD latex.
Oceanic - Not yet listed on the
Therapedic site at the time of this wrtiting, the 14"
Oceanic is the newest high-end model in the
Buoyancy collection. According to press releases, this new mattress high tech foam, making it the bounciest model in the collection. This "high-tech" foam is described as highly resilient with as much as 55% more bounce than most foams. Meanwhile, the latex layers are gradually softer from the bottom up.
Since the
Buoyancy collection is so new, its mattresses are not yet widely listed by retailers, but interested consumers can ask their nearest
Therapedic retailer any questions they have. Therapedic has a list of licensees on their website.
