Sleepcraft brand mattresses are made by Cascade Manufacturing in Auburn, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. Cascade is the Northwest licensee of Therapedic International. These models are not sold in stores under the Sleepcraft label, but as Therapedic mattresses. But this collection does appear to be a regional brand, and Sleepcraft appears to be an in-house label. An internet search locates showrooms with the Sleepcraft models in Washington and Oregon, the most prominent stores being in Seattle and Portland.
The current listing of Sleepcraft mattresses has only six models with names such as Gaia (1 model), Kai (2), Terra (2) and Tellus (1). All are innerspring mattresses. Depending on the model, comfort layers include cotton, wool and latex. The wool is from sheep raised in the Northwest, and the cotton is American grown. All Sleepcraft models are two-sided mattresses, giving them a longer prime usable life than morre common one-sided units.
The type of innerspring used in Sleepcraft mattresses is not specified, but descriptions seem to be of Bonnell coils. The coils are wire-tied. To counter motion transfer, rows of coils are lined longitudinally (head-to-foot). The steel used in the coils in 95% recycled.
All of the Sleepcraft mattresses have covers of 100% cotton.
Gaia is a cotton only innerspring mattress. It has a coil count of 390 in queen size. The comfort layers are all cotton batting, with an equal amount on each side. This model was designed for families wishing to avoid wool and latex. It is basically chemical free. The fire resistant layer is cotton fibers treated with boric acid. No phthalates. No wool. No rayon. No latex.
The two Kai models are Kai Cotton & Wool Innerspring Mattress and Kai Organic Cotton & Wool Innerspring Mattress. The organic version costs about 50% more. The innerspring has 528 medium-gauge (13½-14) coils in Full size. These mattresses have 20 lbs. of cotton and 4½ lbs. of wool on each side. The wool constitutes the fire barrier to eliminate the neeed for chemicals, including boric acid..
The Tullus mattress is like the Kai. In fact, it is based on it. To the cotton and the wool, Tullus adds an inch of latex on each side. The latex gives the mattress more resiliency.
The Terra models are lighter mattresses designed for children. As in Kai models, Terra mattresses have the organic version. They are available only in Twin and Full sizes. A Full mattress has 312 coils, with 9 lbs of cotton and 3½ lbs. of wool on either side. As in the Kai and Tullus mattresses, wool forms the non-chemical fire barrier.
The default foundation for Therapedic Sleepcraft mattresses is the Therapedic Foundation. This is a box platform made from unfinished pine and upholstered with natural cotton. It comes in a choice of height: 4, 7 or 9 inches high.
The warranty for Therapedic Sleepcraft mattresses is for 10 years non-prorated.
