In the Las Vegas Winter Market at the end of January 2015, Therapedic International and Tommy Bahama introduced a new mattress line, the Tommy Bahama Home Collection. It joins the Kathy Ireland Collection as a Therapedic partnership brand. The Tommy Bahama Group, founded in 1992 in Seattle, Washington, has over 130 outlets (retail stores and restaurants) internationally, themed as a tropical island lifestyle. According to Therapedic, "Our Tommy Bahama Home collection of mattresses brings together two well-known and respected brands -- Tommy Bahama and Therapedic. Both brands inspire the world to relax by promoting a lifestyle that emphasizes comfort, rest, and relaxation in the home but now, that lifestyle will include sleep, too."
Tommy Bahama® Home has three mattress collections: Quilted Innerspring, Hybrid, and Specialty Foam. The initial offering is 10 models with names such as Gone Coastal, Bay Dreamer and Barbados. The covers of these mattresses feature prints including palm trees or palm fronds. The upper level models have brass corner guards.
Inside, the Tommy Bahama Home mattresses feature Therapedic technology and design. The Quilted Innerspring and Hybrid collections have pocket coil support units and a center zone of Floating Foam. These coils are wrapped in a mesh-like fabric for maximized airflow. While most of the coils in these innerspring mattresses are in a rectangular grid, those in the center section are nested in a hexagonal grid for greater coil density and additional support under the heaviest part of the sleepers' bodies.
The Floating Foam of the Quilted Innerspring mattresses is in the center of the padding. This is an enhanced airflow foam, both lightweight and solid. Though not specifically stated, the description reminds me of reticulated foam, which is extremely porous with a network structure.
Mattresses in the Tommy Bahama Hybrid Collection have the innerspring of the Quilted Innerspring models and a full-length top layer of Floating Foam. The Therapedic illustration also shows another layer between these two which appears to be foam.
On its page for the Hybrid Collection, Therapedic lists the Benefits of Quilted Innerspring and the Benefits of Floating Foam. For the Quilted Innerspring, these are, "Superior body-conforming comfort and support, Head and foot zone for balanced comfort, and Encased coils reduce motion transfer." For the Floating Foam they are, "Increased density with high density and plush feel, Increased airflow and high breathability, Innovative feel with new levels of comfort, Healthy, non-toxic and eco-friendly foam made of 90+% renewable content, and Superior durability."
Therapedic's Tommy Bahama Home line also has a collection of non-innerspring (specialty sleep) mattresses. This Specialty Foam Collection has three initial models, all named after Caribbean islands: Grand Cayman, Nevis, and Barbados. The comfort layers in these models feature three foams: memory foam, gel-foam and latex. Individual model descriptions are not yet available, but it appears that each of the 3 models features a different foam at the top.
Warranties are issued by the licencees making and distributing the mattresses, such as Stress-O-Pedic in Canada, but most current Therapedic models carry a 10-year non-prorated warranty. Some models have longer or shorter warranty periods.
As with most pocket coil and foam mattresses, the Tommy Bahama Collection mattresses are compatible with platform type foundations and adjustable beds.
Therapedic's accessories for mattresses, such as mattress pads and toppers, can be found at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
