The ThevoFlex therapy mattress sold by Thomashilfen North America is for users who spend their waking hours in wheelchairs. According to Thomashilfen, "Wheelchair users need a mattress that relieves pressure but still provides a firm base to facilitate transfers. The Wheelchair User Mattress combines both characteristics." On RehabMart, ThevoFlex is also recommended for paraplegic and quadraplegic patients.
Elements for meeting these requirements are the Edge Layer, the foam mattress layer, the Wing Suspension system, and a specially designed wheelchair suspension (shock absorber) configuration. This mattress is available in several countries, including the United States and Canada.
A key ingredient of Thevo Mobility Mattresses is the Wing Suspension, the active part of the MiS Micro Stimulation Therapy. The discs at the ends of the wings react to movement or changes in pressure from the user, automatically adjusting the pressure of the mattress.
This array, made of flexible glass fibers, rests on carbon fiber shock absorbers with a kind of circle-8 shape especially configured for this wheelchair user mattress. In the ThevoFlex, this provides much of the pressure relief for the sleeper.
The other pressure relief ingredient of the ThevoFlex wheelchair user mattress is the foam layer at the top just under the cover. This foam has a special formulation for pressure relief. It has relief cuts for flexibilty and conformity, and air channels for cooling. The overall construction is described as firmer at the top and softer at the bottom with the payout being pressure relief.
Dealers of healthcare products list two ThevoFlex models, both the same dimensions, but with different weight capacities. The North American versions, 36" wide by 79" long, are rated for up to 179 lbs. and 177 to 308 lbs.
The ThevoFlex comes with a choice of cover material, jersey or incontinence protection. Both are removable and washable. Both are breathable. Both meet federal flammability standards. Jersey covers are described as "microclimate" material. The incontinence cover is easily cleanable with disinfectant wiping. Both have sewn-in zippers. They can be machine washed and tumble dried.
The ThevoFlex wheelchair user mattress is covered by the same warranty as other Thomashilfen therapy mattresses: lifetime for the support system, 10 years for the cover. Since the cover is removable, it is also replaceable at less cost than the entire mattress.
