Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses

The models in the Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses collection by Glideaway are simply built. Of the two Traditional Memory Foam models, the 7" Tribute has two layers, and the 9" Honor has three.

The technology used in the memory foam mattresses of the Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses series are four foams. These are Advantage Plus (the memory foam in the Honor), SoftComfort (the memory foam in the Tribute), Gentle Support Transition Foam, and Body Support Base Foam.

Extremely few memory foam mattresses are either all or mostly memory foam. Almost all memory foam mattresses have a firm support core occupying from ½ to ¾ the height of the mattress, and the Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses by Glideaway are no exception. Each model has a support core with Glideaway's Body Support Base Foam. The role of the support core is to support the rest of the mattress, basically to keep the sleepers from bottoming out on the memory foam. Even though extra firm, the support core is more forgiving than a hard floor. This base foam is 5" high in Tribute and 4" in Honor.

The SoftComfort memory foam in the 7" Tribute conforms to the shape and weight of a sleeper's body to relieve pressure on the prominent parts while preserving proper posture of the spine. Glideaway describes this 2" layer as transitional to the support base.

The 2" Advantage Plus layer in the 9" Honor is a different configuration of memory foam. It is aerated for ventilation. According to Glideaway, it has "a plush but supportive feel" with a "gradual" response that does not have a "sinking feeling."

The 9" Honor has a 3" intermediate layer of Gentle Support Transition Foam to gradualize the difference from the memory foam to the base foam.

The covers of Glideaway Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses are not covered in the descriptions of these models, but closeup photos of the mattresses indicate an unquilted stretch knit fabric with a textured surface.

Foundations for the Traditional Memory Foam Mattresses need to provide firm steady support. Traditional box springs (the ones with real springs) are not suitable for this type. Acceptable foundations include wood-framed platform boxes (often called "box springs" by retailers due to generalized use of the term), steel foundations with grate surfaces, closely-spaced European-style wood slats, and adjustable beds. Glideaway sells all of these but the wood slats.
