U11 Solstice

U11 Solstice is the lower of the two adjustable airbed models in the Ultimate Series of the 2015 Collection by Comfortaire. It is similar to the Elite S in the Elite Comfort Series of the 2013 Comfortaire Collection. Like the other Ultimate Series model, the U15 Harmony, this is a split-top mattress: one mattress with two head sections. On an adjustable base these can be raised and lowered separately while a couple still shares the same mattress. Though different in other features, this mattress is like the Sleep Number model X12 in having the split top.

The U11 Solstice has dual air support. Each side is controlled separately for individualized comfort, as is the case with all Comfortaire mattresses in two-sleeper sizes. The Solstice uses the Attune Design air support system with urethane film air chambers atop a high density foam support core. This was developed by Comfortaire from its Original Air Technology.

The urethane air chambers are shorter (3½") and thinner-walled than the previous 6" high cotton-latex version. They are also higher up in the mattress, closer to the sleepers, and extend the full width and length for Edge-to-Edge Air Support with full adjustability.

The 2" base foam support core is made of highly resilient synthetic latex. The purpose of this layer is to support the air chambers while serving as a shock absorber. This is also to help the air support unit to conform to the sleeper's body for pressure relief and proper spinal posturing. Since the support core is only 2" high, it does not require perimeter encasement.

At the top of the Comfortaire U11 Solstice is the cover made of bamboo fibers, the same as used in G13 Horizons and G12 Sonata in the Genesis Series. Bamboo fibers, with their mesh-like structure, wick up moisture and carry it away from the sleeping surface. This moisture evaporates to create a cooling effect (this is the principle used in swamp coolers).

The only thing between the Attune Design air chambers and the cover is the 3¼" Evellafoam comfort layer. Evellafoam is a fusion of memory foam and synthetic latex, combining benefits of both materials. It is scented with green tea extract for odor protection and freshness. Green tea extract is an antioxidant, inhibits microbes, and is hypoallergenic.

The preferred foundation for the U11 Soltice split-top air bed is an adjustable bed, especially one with only the head adjustable, or a split-sized unit with synchronized foot sections. Comfortaire sells the Silhouette by Leggett & Platt, which is available in split sizes.

The Comfortaire U11 Solstice comes with a 25-year (4/25) limited warranty. The first four years are not prorated, and the remaining years are. It is anticipated that retailers will be carrying this model by the end of 2014.
