The Tiara Superb is the newest mattress listed by Vispring, at least for North America. As with most mattresses by Vispring, the British manufacturer of luxury mattresses, the Tiara has two layers of pocket coils: in British terms, it is double sprung. The support of the vanadium coils is moderated by fiber comfort layers of natural materials: organic cotton, horsehair, and wool.
Pocket coils were invented by James Marshall for his wife, to relieve pressure on the hips and shoulders while supporting the lower back. Marshall moved to Canada, but his associates in Plymouth, England put his invention to work in 1901 as Vispring, making luxury innerspring mattresses.
They found that the best coil springs are those with six turns (the VI in Vispring). However, one dealer says that the coils in the Tiara Superb have four turns. There is not enough detail in photographs of these coils in their calico pockets to evaluate this. There may be four turns because there are two layers of coils. On the other hand, it is possible a copywriter misread the Roman numeral VI as IV (4). The coils are nested for more effective support.
The Vispring Tiara Superb is a two-sided mattress for durability and even support. Warranty conditions specify periodic rotation and flipping.
The two-layer innerspring is covered on each side by a layer of Platinum Certified British fleece wool and organic cotton. Above this is a blend of long horsetail hair from South America and Platinum Certified Shetland wool. The outside layer is Shetland wool blended with cotton. Each layer is about 4 oz/ft2 in weight.
The Tiara Superb is paired with the Sovereign foundation. The 1728 nested coils in King size (1365 in Queen) are mounted on a solid wood frame which is glued and screwed together, not nailed or stapled. The insulator is coir (coconut husk fibers embeded in latex). On this is a layer of blended wool and cotton. The base is covered with the customer's choice of ticking or upholstery fabric.
The Sovereign base is available as a 12.2" Divan with several drawer options. It is also available as a 9.1" Boxspring, 6.7" Shallow Box Base, or a 4.7" Low Profile Base. The customer can choose the legs for the base, as well as other Finishing Touches.
