VitalWOOD Masterpiece

In accord with its name, the VitalWOOD Masterpiece is handmade. However, all VitalWOOD mattresses are handmade. Besides the signature beechwood wooden coils, materials in this top-of-the-line model include Swiss Pine shavings, organic cotton and wool, latex, "natural" viscose (rayon), and coconut fibers.

Support in the VitalWOOD Masterpiece begins with a latex support core. The latex is perforated vertically to facilitate airflow for cooling and freshness. Holes are bored into the latex, and the wood coils placed into them. These are arranged in a pattern to optimze support for the spine, with additional support where needed. Since, like pocket coils, the wooden springs are not attached to each other, they respond independently, conforming to the body contours of the sleeper. This is to relieve pressure points and distribute support evenly. It also dampens motion transfer to minimize partner disturbance. Under the support core is a protective layer made of compacted coconut fibers and wool. The top is covered with a layer of organic wool.



The comfort layers of the VitalWOOD Masterpiece are made of very soft cold-formed foam called Malvafoam. According to the company, Malvafoam is mixed with vegetable oils.

The cover fabric of the Masterpiece is "natural viscose." Viscose, otherwise known as rayon, is cellulose which has been extraced from woody plant material and forced through a spinneret Rayon is moisture wicking and very durable. An inner cover is made of organic wool. Both the outer and the inner covers are breathable.

Shavings of Swiss Pine are under the inner cover for cushioning. They also discourage mold and microbes.



VitalWOOD also offers a Masteriece Toppper. The cover is rayon quilted with organic wool. Both of these fibers wick moisture for dissipation and evaporation. The cushioning layer is 3 cm of static-resistant latex.

The recommended foundation for the Masterpiece is European-style wood slats, such as the VitalWOOD® CRADLE Boxspring+. The Masterpiece is covered by the Bio-Textima/VitalWOOD 20-year warranty.

Masterpiece is not yet available in North America, but VitalWOOD expects to have models for sale in the United States and Canada in Spring 2015.
