VitalWOOD® Perfect Variations
Perfect Variations is a two-model series of mattresses produced by
VitalWOOD, a subsidiary of Hungarian firm
Bio-Textima.
VitalWOOD products, featuring their innovative
wooden coil springs, were introduced to American retailers and distributors at the Winter 2014 Las Vegas Market, and are expected to be available in the United States and Canada sometime later in 2014.
This series is called
Perfect Variations because these are two-sided mattresses. One side is firmer, the other softer. The support core is a hybrid of
Biogreen and
latex.
VitalWOOD describes
Biogreen as a cold-formed
foam, made with "natural processes" and containing "essential plant oils." The company claims that it is anti-bacterial and anti-static.
Holes are bored into the core in the areas where additional support is needed. The wooden springs are placed into these coils. The center of each coil is filled with a foam insert. These coils respond independently, so their support is comforming. And being wood, not metal, they do not amplify and focus electromagnetic radiation, which is believed by many to have harmful effects on the human body.
VitalWOOD calls this radiation "Electrosmog."
The support core is covered top and bottom with a cold-foam layer. This is a buffer layer. Its role is to help spread the weight evenly.
On the softer side is a complex foam layer, zoned in two ways. The layer has four firmness zones, keyed to large areas of the body. Structurally, it has seven zones. This complexity is gained through use of two kinds of foam, latex and
ecoMemory, a kind of memory foam. This layer is vertically ventilated for air circulation.
Each side has a layer of convoluted foam (called "pyramid" foam by Europeans). This allows air circulation close to the sleeping surface, whichever side is up. There are some differences between this layer from one side to the other, but both are claimed to be ecologically friendly materials.
VitalWOOD Perfect Variations mattresses are dual covered. The inner cover is made of organic cotton. The outer cover is made of "natural viscose." This appears to be equivalent to our rayon, which is made from wood cellulose. This cover is treated with
Thermec, a temperature control substance made from vegetable oil.
The two models differ in height by only one centimeter. The
Greenform is 23 cm high, and the
Memo 22 cm. The closest equivalent to a Queen size, the 160 X 180 cm mattress, has 40 wooden coils.
Bio-Textima has a 10-year warranty on all of its
VitalWOOD mattresses.
Perfect Variations is not yet available in North America, but
VitalWOOD expects to have models for sale in the United States and Canada in Spring 2015.
