VitalWOOD® Premium Selection

Premium Selection is the second series of mattresses from VitalWOOD, a subsidiary of Bio-Textima, a Hungarian firm. This series has three models, simply named Soft, Medium and Firm. All of these models feature VitalWOOD's wooden coils.

VitalWOOD says, "The result of technical innovation, the Premium Selection models are the 21st century representatives of the classic coco-latex mattress!" Coco-latex is coconut husk fibers (or shredded husks) coated with latex. It has been used for a long time as sleeping pad material in India and other South Asia countries. Two of the Premium Selection models, Medium and Firm, meet this description, having compacted coconut fibre and natural wool protection layers soaked with latex." The Soft model may be included, but latex is omitted from the designation of the protection layers.

In each of the models, the "electrosmog-free, AWST™ [All-Wood Support Technology] spine relief system with wooden coil springs" is "embedded in an air circulating latex core with ventilation bore holes." The "steamed and compressed organic beech" coils are placed in the holes, which are arranged in an orthopedic support pattern, and foam columns are inserted into the centers of the coils. Air circulation is enhanced by an "air circulating inner structure" for coolness and freshness.

The covers of the VitalWOOD Premium Selection mattresses are made of natural cotton and Lenpur™ (cultivated wood fiber, drawn from the branches of a special selection of trees). There is an inner cover made of cotton.

Each Premium Selection model by Each Premium Selection model by VitalWOOD has a latex foam sleeping surface layer. This firmness level of this layer is portioned into seven zones to distribute its support and cushioning according to areas of the body. The thickness of this varies by model, being apparently thickest in Premium Selection Soft and thinnest in Premium Selection Firm. The firmer two models also have an un-zoned extra cushioning layer between the surface layer and the support core. Also, protective sheets of rubberized coconut fibers with wool are added between layers, one in Medium and two in Firm, accounting for part of the additional firmness.

The recommended foundation for Premium Selection mattress is the VitalWOOD® Cradle Boxspring. This is a development of the European wood slats with resilient wood slats instead of metal springs. It features a double-spring system with inlays of double-lined slats. These slats differ in their rigidity and are arranged in zones according to the support requirements of areas of the body. As with the support core of the mattress, the use of wood instead of metal springs reduces the concentration and focusing of potentially harmful electromagnetic radiation on the users.

Premium Selection is not yet available in North America, but VitalWOOD expects to have models for sale in the United States and Canada in Spring 2015.
