The Lincklaen is a 10" high organic mattress made by WJ Southard. It has a 6" thick core of firm all-natural latex. Latex, made from rubber tree sap, is a naturally resilient material which is also hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, bacteria and fungi.
On top of the latex core of this mattress is a 3" comfort layer of natural latex, not as firm as the core.
WJ Southard adds wool batting. The weight of this batting is 20 ounces per square yard. This a blend of wools, described as pure and organic, meaning only wool (no added materials), and raised and processed without hormones or chemicals.
The cover of a WJS The Lincklaen mattress is made of organic cotton with a weight of 5 ounces per square yard. This cover is zippered, but is not washable.
The Lincklaen is available in a choice among three sizes: Firm, Medium and Dual (½ Firm and ½ Medium). The dual choice accomodates couples with different needs.
WJS's The Lincklaen comes in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King. It must be noted that on sizes Full and above, the latex support core is split into two halves. This facilitates not only handling in delivery or moving the mattress. The core is available in two firmness levels, which determines the overall firmness of the mattress, or of the sides if it is dual firmness (only in Queen and King). This is also the real reason the cover is zippered: put the two cores into the cover when setting up the mattress.
The recommended foundation is Southard's slatted base. The advantages of this are (1) sure support, (2) flexibility, and (3) ventilation. The slats are placed close enough to fully support the mattress. The resiliency of the slats acts as a shock absorber so the mattress doesn't "take all the beating." And slats let air through so the mattress can breathe, which helps keep the mattress dry inside.
