Zedbed R2 Series
The second series of mattresses listed by Candian bedding manufacturer
Zedbed is the
R2 Series. The signature feature of this mattress collection is the use of
Zedbed's
R2 foam in the top layer.
Zedbed calls
R2 "an improved version of our PURE memory foam." (The PURE memory form is the key feature of
Zedbed's
PURE Series.)
R2 is a "quick response" material, recovering its original shape in 5 to 15 seconds (compared to 15-30 sec. for PURE). Like PURE,
Zedbed uses less fossil hydrocarbons in its manufacture than in most memory foams, using bio-based oils such as soy. Also, water is used as the solvent in forming the foam, minimizing the emissions from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), enough so that their foam is certified as VOC free.
Additional benefits claimed by
Zedbed for its foam are:

The support level for
R2 foam in the
R2 Series is, according to
Zedbed, "semi-firm with quick response." What this means for the customer is that a sleeper can change positions more easily with the foam more quickly adjusting to the new position. Additionally, motion transfer is dampened to reduce disturbance of one sleeper by the other.
The middle support layer in
R2 Series mattresses is firm HD Talalay latex. Balancing the conformity of the
R2 memory foam, the latex evens out body weight across the whole mattress. Air channels are used in some of the models to increase air circulation for cooling and ventilation.
Like the PURE mattresses, the foam in the top comfort layer of the
Zedbed R2 Series mattresses is infused with gel crystals to make it a "Snowpedic" material. This uses the heat absorbing and transfer properties of gel to cool the sleeping surface, countering the known tendency of viscoe elastic memory foam to accumulate heat and become hot.
Zedbed mattresses, including those in the
R2 Series, utilize
Gel Plus (
G+) so the user can adjust the amount of cooling for personal preference, parts of the body, and seasons. The user can add or remove
G+ pads as needed. How does
Zedbed do this? The mattresses have pockets just the right size and shape for these pads so they are easy to insert/remove and will stay in place.
The base (bottom) layer of an
R2 Series mattress is made of
Zedbed's own high density, extra firm base foam. Like the
PURE and
R2 memory foams, this support foam is also made with a significant portion of soy oils to reduce the amount of fossil hydrocarbons in the product.
Tremperature control uses the company's
Zedfresh technology. But it also uses
Outlast fabric in the cover.
Outlast is made with fibers developed and patented by Invista (formerly part of Dow). These are knit into cover fabric by a company in Montreal, not far from the
Zedbed plant in Province Quebec.
Zedbed sells its
R2 Series mattresses with a 25-year warranty. They are available through several retailers across Canada and a few in the U.S.
