Zedbed ZX Series
The
ZX Series by Canadian mattress manufacturer
Zedbed is defined by the top layer of its mattresses:
ZX foam.
What is ZX foam? It is described by
Zedbed as a hybrid foam, a balance between latex and memory foam. According to the company,
ZX foam has the resiliency (instant response) of latex and the conformity of memory foam. This, they claim, gives
ZX an advantage over memory foam. Additionally,
Zedbed says that
ZX Foam is resistant to dust mites and is hypo-allergenic.
What ingredients are in ZX foam? Zedbed does not list everything which goes into its
ZX foam. It does say, "Unlike the majority of memory foams, high-density ZX isn't made solely from hydrocarbons, but contains soybean oil, a renewable resource." Since oils
are hydrocarbons,
Zedbed must mean
fossil hydrocarbons, meaning from petroleum. No other ingredients are named, except they say that in the foam forming process the evaporative solvent used is water.
The primary support for the
Zebed ZX Series is a thick block of either latex or "soy-based" foam, depending on the model. This foam is very firm. According to Zedbed, one advantage of this very firm support core is it "uniformly distributes body weight over the entire mattress surface." It also dampens motion transfer. Depending on the model, a
ZX Series may use support foam with air channels to increase ventilation.
In a
ZX Series mattress, the support core rests on a base layer of even firmer foam. According to
Zedbed, this foam does have air channels which are configured in a way that not only provides ventilation, but also creates zones of support corresponding to where body weight is concentrated. This base layer serves as the interface for the mattress with the foundation.
Like other
Zedbed mattresses, the
ZX Series models uses
Snowpedic technology. In the processing of the top layer material, gel crystals are added to the foam. These gel crystals are to serve as a heat sink, drawing heat from the sleeping surface and the surrounding foam and carrying it away to where it can dissipate. This way, the sleepers should stay cool, not be too warm.
The cover of
ZX Series mattresses is made of
Outlast, a fabric developed to keep temperatures in a middle range. The fibers contain Phase Change Materials, which change their physical state to absorb heat when it is too warm and release heat when it is too cool.
Outlast also wicks moisture and carries it away, keeping the sleeping surface dry.
Like other
Zedbed products, mattresses in the
ZX Series carry a 25-year limited warranty from the manufacturer. These mattresses are sold by retailers all across Canada and some in the United States.
