At the time I am writing this (March 2016), it is almost like a sneak preview. Serta now has a smart bed, the Motion Custom II Adjustable Foundation (MCII), made especially for Serta's upgraded iComfort Collection, which now includes hybrid mattresses. Serta placed it with a few select retailers in February, and will release it nationwide in May. The company does not yet show the MCII on its website, and the only retailer listing this new adjustable bed online is Sears/Kmart.
The Motion Custom II features the Serta SleepGPS, making use of the Sleeptracker system used by Simmons Beautyrest's SmartMotion Base. This is part of the growing smart bed trend. A few examples of this already reviewed on Beds.Org are the Customatic iFit Sleep System, Beautyrest SmartMotion, and Select Comfort's Sleep Number x12 and SleepIQ for Kids. The SmartMotion, also made by Ergomotion, will come closest to the MCII.
The Motion Custom II looks like an ordinary adjustable base, but appearances don't tell the story. Embedded sensors read the sleeper's breathing, heart rate, movements, etc. The system then charts sleeping patterns, and makes adjustments to help the user sleep better.
There are other features besides the SleepGPS in the Motion Custom II. These include an 850-lb. lifting capacity, a massage with six levels, magnetic storage to hold the wireless remote with motion-sensitive backlighting, Bluetooth connectivity, under-bed convenience lighting, and USB power slots.
The standard height of the Motion Custom II is 9" from floor to deck in Flat position. Optional legs may be available to adjust the height. Like other Serta Motion adjustable bases, the MCII will fit into a standard bed frame. In the Flat position, it will look like an ordinary bed.
