Parklane Mattresses, originally known as Paramount Bedding, is based in Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. It is a manufacturer of mattresses and accessories, and also has 10 locations in the Greater Portland area. Parklane Mattresses has been making mattresses over 90 years. Here is the company's history in their own words:

Our History

In 1921, originally named Paramount Bedding, Inc., we began our journey in the sleep industry making cotton stuffed mattresses that were sold to consumers in Oregon. Our place in the local market was eventually over-run by large franchised mattress retailers causing us to diversify. Thus we began making specialty mattresses for such markets as Long-haul trucks, RVs, hospitals, colleges, campgrounds, summer camps, recreational vehicles, FEMA, the Coast Guard and fire departments throughout the Northwest.

In 1989, husband and wife team, Nels and Debbie Lewis purchased the company. They had a new vision. They believed that the quality of Paramount Bedding mattresses, along with their ability to sell direct, should benefit a wider population than just their corporate accounts. Thus, they expanded their manufacturing capabilities and returned the legacy of sharing their superior sleep experience and the direct to consumer business model with the general public. The Parklane business model allows us to manufacture our mattresses at equivalent or superior quality levels to those of name brand mattress companies, yet sell them for much less.

Today we hold tight to our belief that everyone deserves great sleep. Therefore, we look forward to helping you find your better sleep secret.

Parklane Mattresses prides itself on being a local company, serving northwest Oregon and southwest Washington: "Our products are made here. And they embody the values of the Oregonians who design and create them. As a company, we make highly specific choices to ensure that both our products and our operations are environmentally conscious and sustainable. And, with almost 100 years here in the Oregon community, we like to feel as if we’re especially sensitive to the cares and needs of our customers." With a statement like this, it is not surprising that the first type of mattress listed by Parklane is Green Mattresses. The company also partners with St. Vincent De Paul (SVDP) in recycling mattresses. Used mattresses removed from customers' places are turned over to SVDP. Those which are usable can be sold by the charity or given to those in need.

The change of name from Paramount Bedding was to avoid confusion with Paramount Sleep and Paramount Mattress. The former is building partnerships for a nationwide market at the same time the Oregon company is beginning to get national attention.

The Parklane Mattresses website lists their mattresses three ways: by Type, by Sleep Position, and by Comfort. The five types of mattresses are Green Mattresses, Talalay Latex Mattresses, GEL Foam - Memory Foam Mattresses, Marshall Coil Mattresses, and Offset Coil Mattresses. The sleep positions are Side, Back, Stomach and Combo. The comfort levels are Plush, Medium and Firm.

Green Mattresses - According to Parklane, these mattresses "will inflict minimal to no harm on the environment." They "are recyclable from top to bottom." Cover fabrics include organic cotton, natural bamboo, and aloe vera, among others. Inside, these green mattresses have natural materials, such as Talalay latex. Other plant-derived materials are used in non-latex support core foams. None of the three models has a spring coil core.

Talalay Latex Mattresses - Natural latex is made from the sap of the rubber tree. It is used for its resliliency. It is also resistant to dust mites, bacteria, mold and mildew. Compared to other foams, latex is very durable. All three of these models have latex foam support cores–no springs

GEL Foam and Memory Foam Mattresses - Like the two previous types, these are specialty sleep mattresses. Their key feature is memory foam or gel-infused memory foam. All four models have a support core of high density plant-based foam configured to foster airflow to cool and ventilate the mattress.

Marshall Coil Mattresses - Marshall coils are also called "pocket" or "wrapped" coils. They are cylindrical coils which are sewn into cloth pockets. These coils are free for each coil to respond independently to pressure applied directly to it. This way the coil array conforms to the contours of the sleeper's body.

Offset Coil Mattresses - Offset coils are hourglass shaped coils. They have flattened portions at the top and bottom which are hinged to adjoining coils with helical wire. While responding individually, they also help support each other.

Besides mattresses, Parklane Mattresses also makes accessories, including pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, and bed frames and foundations. The foundations are made of wood from trees in Pacific Northwest forests. It also sells two adjustable beds made by Customatic Adjustable Bedz.

Not all of Parklane Mattresses models are sold in their own showrooms and stores in the Greater Portland (OR) area. Their RV mattresses are sold exclusively online through Excel Distributors, especially on Amazon. RV mattresses can still be found online under Paramount Bedding.
