The Original Mattress Factory

The Original Mattress Factory is based in Cleveland, Ohio. It does not distribute through general retailers, but sells its mattresses directly to consumers. The Original Mattress Factory has 91 locations, 11 of which are also factories, in 9 states: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, south Carolina, and Virginia.

The following information is from the website of The Original Mattress Factory:

The Original Mattress Factory was founded in 1990 to manufacture top quality mattresses and box springs to be sold direct to the public at reasonable prices.

The idea of The Original Mattress Factory was conceived by Ron Trzcinski a few months after he left The Ohio Mattress Company. At the time, Ohio Mattress was the world’s largest producer of mattresses and box springs and marketed their products under the brand names of Sealy and Stearns & Foster. Ron decided to resign from his position as President and Chief Operating Officer in late 1988 as the company was about to be sold to investors in a leveraged buyout. Although the new owners asked Ron to stay, he had no desire to be a part of their “cash is king” philosophy.

After giving the idea some serious thought, Ron decided that he could best fulfill his goals by creating his own mattress company. He met with two former colleagues: Perry Doerman, Secretary and Treasurer of Ohio Mattress and Larry Carlson, Vice-President of Manufacturing at Sealy’s Medina plant. Together, they formed The Original Mattress Factory and opened their first location in Cleveland, Ohio in June 1990. At that time, the company was made up by just five employees: three manufacturing employees and two part-time sales people. Approximately one year later, Doug Stroup, President of Upholstery at Stearns & Foster, became a fourth partner. Since then, The Original Mattress Factory has grown by leaps and bounds and now has 11 factories, over 100 showrooms and more than 400 employees. Despite these changes, we have stayed true to our original Mission Statement and Philosophy and continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.

Eliminating the Middle Man

Did you know that when you buy a mattress from a retail store, that mattress is being sold for the second time? What do we mean? Well, the factory sells the mattresses to a retailer, who in turn sells it to you…with costs and mark-ups for both.

At The Original Mattress Factory, we eliminate the middleman retailer and only sell our mattresses once. We manufacture all of our products in our own local factories and sell them in our own local stores. As a result, we are able to sell our quality mattresses and box springs with no extra step…and no extra markup. So you get the same great quality at a great low price.

Long Distance Delivery:

For anyone living outside our local delivery areas, we can ship our mattresses to most states within the continental U.S. There are two different types of shipping that are available:

Common Carrier Delivery: This is a tailgate delivery, so you will need to take the product(s) off the back of the truck and make arrangements to carry them into your home. Tailgate does not include removal of old mattresses and box springs. It typically takes 1-2 weeks for delivery.

Home Delivery: Inside home delivery is also available in most areas. This means that the product(s) will be unloaded and taken inside the home for you. Removal is usually available for an additional charge. It typically takes 3-4 weeks for delivery.
