The Charleston is the entry level model of Ultra Luxury Collection memory foam mattresses by Christeli, and is one of two models labelled "Popular" by the manufacturer. Like the other two models, Lux Estate and Palais Grand Royale, is has two comfort layers in a European box top and a quilted cashmere cover. It differs from the two higher models in the support core: Charleston has Christeli's Ortho Care Support soy-based polyurethane, while the others rely on latex.
Top to bottom, Charleston is listed as a luxury product. The cover of cashmere is quilted with Cool Tufting fibers. Cashmere is breathable, and is temperature neutral. Its natural moisture wicking keeps the sleeping surface dry. Cool Tufting is airy, keeping the sleeper cool. Christeli says "Our Charleston compares to the TEMPUR-Allura bed." This could be the TEMPUR-Cloud Allura, the TEMPUR-Contour Allura or both.
The European box top of the Charleston has two layers of Christeli's Super Cool Memory Foam, 5.3-lb. and 6-lb. Both memory foams are ventilated for cooling and freshness. The 6-lb. foam is on top. Christeli says this makes the contouring "more exacting" for better pressure relief. The 5.3-lb. memory foam makes this mattress plusher.
The box top is attached to the support core by the handles on the side. According to Christeli, they "allow for easy adjustments" in firmness by "an easy turn of the base." An instructional video shows this being done by turning the support core over.
The Ortho-Core Support in the Charleston support core has adjustable firmness. It also features Christeli's Body5 Zoned Spinal Support with five zones for five sections of the body from head to feet.
The support core of the Charleston is belted by Christeli's Better Edge foam encasement, which also serves to support the edge of the sleeping surface. The claim is that this adds 25% to the sleeping surface. It does prevent roll-offs caused by a sagging edge (however, if you are already too close to the edge and roll that direction, only a rail can hold you back).
Firm, flat foundations are a requirement for memory foam mattresses. Christeli sells four foundations meeting this requiement. One is a steel bed foundation, the Christeli Foundation. The other three are adjustable beds: Ergomatic 1000, Ergomatic 4000, and Ergomatic 5000. Other qualifying foundations are wood platforms, European wood slats (if there is less than 4" between slats), and a few box springs with closely-space springs and not too much flex.
