E-Gel Collection

The tagline for the E-Gel Collection by Englander is, "Sleep Cool. Play Cool. Live Cool." They go on to say, "The most Innovative Product in Bedding is a Mattress that is Totally Cool & Comfortable!" The emphasis of the role of gel in these memory foam mattresses is cooling (compare this to the primary emphasis on support in Technogel products). However, the description of the gel does cite support.

Their CoolBlue Sleep Technology™ is the key feature of this line. In E-Gel mattresses this is a departure from gel infused into memory foam. It is the permanent bonding of memory foam to "solid gel cells." Why this way? According to Englander, the gel cylinders are more cooling and more supportive.

Shock absorption is another claimed benefit of the solid gel, which also reduces vibration. And solid gel is also claimed to be anti-bacterial.

Englander also claims health benefits for CoolBlue Sleep Technology: no overheating, better blood circulation, less point pressure, spinal support, body size/weight adjustment, more deep sleep.

Englander's website is light on details, but more are provided by manufacturers and retailers. For instance, manufacturer Advanced Sleep Concepts lists four models,: Topaz, Turquoise, Sapphire and Opal. These differ in the number of gel cylinders, with 1,500 in Topaz and Opal, 2,100 in Turquoise, and 2,100 in Sapphire, which suggests that the diameter of the cylinders varies by model. The firmness of the support core is 28-ILD, and the memory foam is 4 lbs. And each model has two foam transition layers (I assume just above the support core).

Actual models and model details may depend on the manufacturer (the US manufacturers are the actual owners of Englander). Since these are regional, available models would then also depend on where you live. Customer service is also handled by the member manufacturers.

One retailer adds "no motion transfer" to the list of benefits, while another gives the height of their model as 12 inches.

No one foundation is recommended for E-Gel models, but this type of mattress needs a better foundation than the old-style box springs. More suitable are wood slats, platform beds, and adjustable bases.

The warranty on E-Gel mattresses is for 20 years, with the first 10 non-prorated and the last 10 prorated.
