The top model in the 2015 edition of the Optimum Collection by Sealy is the Optimum Elation Gold. It is an upgrade of the previous version, Optimum Elation. All the models in this collection, both memory foam and latex, have gel in each layer, top-to-bottom.
The signature features of Optimum Elation Gold and other memory foam mattresses in the Optimum Collection are the top layer of OptiCool Gel Memory Foam fused to Outlast Gold fabric, the middle layer of support-shaping OptiSense Gel Memory Foam, and the support layer of OptiCore gel-infused base foam.
As on the other Optimum models, the cover of the Elation Gold has a circular knit pattern with its own embossed pattern. This fabric stretches to match the deflection of the memory foam underneath for an unwrinkled feel. It is also breathable to help in cooling the mattress. The textured pattern helps moisture to dry.
The 2" OptiCool Gel Memory Foam is fused to a temperature-regulating fabric, Outlast 2.0 Gold. From Outlast, Inc, this material was developed for the space program to protect astronauts from extreme heat and cold. Outlast consists of fibers containing phase change materials (PCMs). The PCMs change their physical state at either end of a desired temperature range to keep it from being too hot or too cold.
The OptiSense Gel Memory Foam layer in the Optimum Elation Gold mattress is 4" high, the highest of the 2015 Optimum models (the OptiSense Premium Latex layers in the 2015 Optimum Gel Latex Series of latex mattresses have the same range of 1" to 4"). The memory foam in the OptiSense is infused with gel to enhance support. The OptiSence GFM shapes the support of the support core, determining the overall firmness and comfort level of the model.
At the bottom of the Optimum Elation Gold is the support core, a 7" layer of OptiCore. This gel-infused high-density polyurethane foam is very firm to supply overall support for the entire mattress and the sleeper(s). The current core is an inch higher than the 6" previous version for better support and greater durability.
The Optimum Foundation (not to be confused with a box spring) is a box-style upholstered platform foundation specifically designed by Sealy for foam mattresses. This is to provide the solid support needed by these beds. Having a solid foundation is required by the warranty, since it prolongs the life of the mattress. However, experts do not recommend this kind of mattress for larger persons, such as 250 pounds and up.
The Optimum Elation Gold is also compatible with adjustable beds. Sealy supplies two models, the Reflexion Up Foundation and the Reflexion 4 Adjustable Base. The Reflexion Up, considered an upgrade from the flat foundation, raises only the upper body section. The Reflexion 4 is a fully adjustable bed, raising both head and feet.
