Royal-Pedic All Cotton Mattress
The
Royal-Pedic All Cotton Mattress is the firmest mattress made by
Royal Pedic. This ultra-firm bed is 8.5 to 9 inchs high. The reason for the variance is that, according to one retailer, they are custom made-to-order. The quality of this mattress, like all Royal-Pedic products, is due to being hand-made, which also accounts for minor differences in the compression of padding materials such as cotton.
The signature feature of the
Royal-Pedic All Cotton Mattress is the hand-layered long staple cotton padding both above and below the innerspring unit. A king-size mattress contains more than 50 lbs. of cotton, which is pre-stressed before insertion. These layers of cotton are enclosed in ticking made of Belgian cotton. No synthetic materials are used in either the padding or the fabric of the
mattresses.
The cotton padding is hand-tufted to keep the layers in place. The old-fashioned procedure - without buttons - uses European style strapping to compress the cotton even more to provide firmness at an orthopedic level.
The innerspring unit is the Swiss engineered Royal-Flex® Innerspring System. According to Royal-Pedic, their mattresses have 85% more coils than the average coil count of other mattress brands. The open-ended, untied coils have only six turns. This makes them more flexible, therefore better able to respond and conform to the weight and shape of a sleeper's body.
The innerspring unit is supported all around the perimeter by T-Spring Side Supports. This gives firmness and support to the edge of the mattress.
The recommended base for the Royal-Pedic All Cotton Mattress is the Royal-Pedic Double Diamond Box Spring (it is required for full warranty coverage). According to Royal-Pedic, "We provide 22% more coils than is standard for extra support and durability, and have 50% more coils located in the center-third of the box spring to support the body better (over 60% of our body weight is located in our torso area)." The coils are made of 8.75 gauge wire. A layer of cotton padding atop the box spring cushions and protects the mattress.
Mattress pads are for sale to soften the firmness of the mattress. They are available 3", 4" and 5" thick.
