Royal-Pedic Latex & Latex Quilt Top Mattresses
These two Royal-Pedic models, the Latex and the Latex Quilt Top are specialty mattresses, which means they do not have innersprings. Instead of innersprings, these two mattresses have a 5.5" latex support cores. Natural latex is a botanical product. It is made from the sap of the rubber tree, grown in moist tropical climates, in this case India and Malaysia. As such, it is a renewable and sustainable resource.

Latex, also called rubber, is well known for its resiliency. It is also anti-microbial and dust mite resistant. Since the latex for Royal-Pedic mattresses is rinsed several times after being cured, it is also hypoallergenic - no proteins left to trigger allergic reactions. And since it is not made from petroleum, there is no noxious outgassing.

The Latex mattress is the second firmest Royal-Pedic mattress (the firmest is the All Cotton models). The 8" Royal-Pedic Latex has a firmness rating of 2 (Firm), while the 9" Royal-Pedic Latex Quilted Top is 4. But overall firmness does not tell the whole story. The support of the latex core in these mattresses is tailored into 7-Zones of Comfort & Orthopedic Support. Royal-Pedic says that their seven zones were "designed for all heights, and symmetrically designed to remain consistent when the mattress is rotated in any direction." They "were developed based upon sleep studies to provide optimal sleeping comfort and ergonomic support to all parts of the body." Here are the 7 zones:



Zone 1 - Head and Neck
Zone 2 - Shoulders and Upper Back
Zone 3 - Lumbar (Lower Back)
Zone 4 - Pevis (Hips)
Zone 5 - Knees
Zone 6 - Lower Legs
Zone 7 - Feet and Ankles

Royal-Pedic craftspersons hand-layer long staple cotton to each side of the latex support core. This is to provide additional padding and support. Then it is covered with Belgian cotton ticking. The advantages of the cotton include ventilation and moisture wicking.

The Quilted Top version of the Royal-Pedic Latex quilts Belgian damask with New Zealand wool for a softer feel and more breathability. This is on both sides, since this is a two-sided mattress.

For a softer feel, Royal-Pedic has mattress pads in the same size as your mattress. They are available in three heights: 3", 4", 5".

The Royal Pedic box spring is the recommeded foudation for the Latex and the Latex Quilt Top mattresses. They have a 10-year non-prorated warranty.
