Royal-Pedic Pillowtop Pads
Royal-Pedic makes and sells pillowtop mattress pads. These pads can be used to fine-tune the firmness level of a mattress. According to Royal-Pedic, the advantages of a separate pillowtop pad over a built-on pillow top (especially on a two-sided mattress) are as follows:
~ Fitted sheets pull on easier.
~ Removing the pad when rotating the mattress means less weight to handle.
~ The sleeping surface is closer to normal bed height.
~ It enhances the life span of the underlying mattress.

The role of a Royal-Pedic Pillowtop Pad is to give the mattress additional cushioning for both a more luxurious feel and extra relief from pressure points. The mattress pad, which itself has significant weight, is held on by the fitted sheet. Here is where one advantage of the cotton covers comes into play: the pad is not prone to slipping on the mattress as is the case with most synthetic fiber fabrics.

The Royal-Pedic Pillowtop Pads utilize French wool (untreated), "hypoallergenic Comfort Fil 7", and natural latex. The cover fabric is Belgian cotton. These pads are available in 3", 4", and 5" thicknesses (the 4" and 5" are called "Royal Cloud"), and are recommended for the Royal-Pedic All Cotton mattresses.

For those who prefer bedding which is a higher degree of organic, Royal-Pedic makes the Royal-Pedic Organic Pillowtop Pads and Royal-Pedic Natural Organic Pillowtop Pads, which do not use the ComfortFil 7. The Organic Pillowtop Pads are covered with German-woven organic cotton quilted to untreated French wool and padded with all natural latex. They are available in thicknesses of 3", 4", and 6".

The Royal-Pedic Natural Organic Pillowtop Pads, which are free from all chemicals, feature a quilted top of organic cotton and several layers of French wool over a layer of all-natural latex. This Natural Organic collection has a 2-inch model in addition to those of 3, 4 and 5 inches.

All three collections of Royal-Pedic pillowtop mattress pads are widely available, being sold by the same retailers selling Royal-Pedic mattresses. Prices are in the $$$-$$$$ category. They are warranteed for 10 years with the first 5 non-prorated.
