Serta introduced its revised iComfort line at the 2016 Winter Market in Las Vegas. Full release and a national advertising campaign are scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. In mid-April, Serta already is showing the updated collection on its website, complete with videos and a full listing of models. Some of the new models are already for sale online with select retailers.
What is new with Serta iComfort for 2016 is the inclusion of hybrid mattresses. The iComfort Collection itself contains two series, iComfort Memory Foam and iComfort Hybrid. The Hybrid series is the iSeries Collection brought under the iComfort banner. The iSeries Collection will cease when the revised iComfort Collection is fully released at the end of May.
The iComfort Memory Foam and Hybrid mattresses are esentially the same on top. The difference is in the support core. For the Memory Foam series models it is Serta's Ultimate Edge® Foam Support Core. Models in the Hybrid series have the Duet® Coil Individually Wrapped Coil Support System with BestEdge® Foam Encasement. The coil count ranges from 952 to 1008.
Duet Coils are a coil-in-coil design of pocket coils patented by Serta and a Serta engineer. Two coils are made from one wire, with the outer coil softer and the inner coil firmer to give a dual response. The primary advantage is that these are self-adjusting, suitable for persons of different weights.
The models in both series of the 2016 iComfort Collection vary widely in their comfort layers. All feature EverFeel Triple Effects gel memory foam. This memory foam is peppered with gel beads that contain titanium. The intent of this is to add to the support properties of the memory foam while preserving the renown conformability of this visco-elastic material.
Gel also has an initial cooling effect, absorbing excess heat. The open-cell structure of the foam is supposed to foster air flow, which would carry off this heat.
Among the premium components, available only in select models of either series, are EverCool Plus and SmartSupport Memory Coil System. EverCool Plus is a foam especially formulated and structured for cooling. This is to counter the natural tendency of memory foam to accumulate heat.
The SmartSupport Memory Coil system is a sheet of microcoils used in the comfort layers to bring pocket coil support up closer to the sleeper. It is usually between two foam layers. This lessens the chance of top foam sagging and also helps with cooling, since air flows through it more freely than through foam.
Some of the new iComfort models are already carried by a few retailers. Many more have been tried out by retail personnel. With the full release, all should be widely available.
Models in the iComfort Memory Foam series are F700, F500 F300, Prodigy® III, Savant® III (Cushion Firm and Plush), Guidance, and Foresight.
iComfort Hybrid models are HB700Q, HB500Q, HB300Q, Expertise Super Pillow Top, Visionaire Plush, Advisor, Recognition Extra Firm, Discoverer Plush, Observer, Applause II (Firm and Plush), HB700S, HB500S, HB300S, Expertise Firm, Visionaire Firm, Philosopher (Plush and Firm), Recognition Plush, and Discoverer Firm.
Although the default foundation for iComfort mattresses is the upholstered box base made for Serta. The recommended bases are adjustable beds carried by Serta: the Motion Pivot, the Motion Custom II and the Motion Perfect III.
All new iComfort Collection mattress models are covered by a 10-year non-prorated warranty from Serta.
