Sleep Number Memory Foam m6

Sleep Number currently shows two models in its Memory Foam Series of adjustable airbeds, the 12" high m7 and the 10" m6. For some reason the 13" m9 is no longer shown. The 13" mLE, a limited edition model, only appears when it is a featured sale item.

Like all Select Comfort beds, the Sleep Number m6 features adjustable air support. Memory Foam Series beds have one or two air chambers, depending on the bed size and the options. Twin size beds have only a single chamber. Full and Queen have the option of single or air support. King sizes all have dual chambers.

The pressure in the air chambers of the m6 is controlled by a wireless hand-held remote. It shows a number on its screen, the Sleep Number for the comfort level (firmness) of the air in the mattress. There are only three buttons on the remote, Up, Down and a button with an O on it. Sleep Number says that the "remote remembers you and your ideal support, and guides you to your Sleep Number® setting."

Select Comfort now has SleepIQ as an option for the m6. This system monitors the user's sleep, measuring breathing, heart rate and movements and calculates a SleepIQ number. Night-after-night, an average number emerges. The user can find out which Sleep Number settings produce the best sleep and comfort. According to Select Comfort, "There's nothing to wear, nothing to turn on. All you have to do is sleep."

The signature feature of airbeds in the Memory Foam Series is the comfort layer of LuxFit® memory foam atop the air support system. The height of this memory foam is the primary difference distinguishing the models. The role of memory foam is to relieve pressure on parts of the body that project out more (like hips, shoulders and knees) and support recessed parts (like the lower spine and the neck).

The quilted cover of the Sleep Number m6 has what is simply called a "Luxuriously soft fabric." This description could fit cotton, but the m7 has a blend of polyester and rayon

An airbed, such as the Sleep Number m6, requires a base with firm support. Select Comfort provides four foundations that meet this need. One is their Modular Base. It is delivered as components which are easily moved into the room where they are assembled. The solid top and sides are perforated for ventilation. Optional legs raise the base to allow storage underneath. It can also be used on a rolling steel bed frame.

The other three foundations are adjustable beds. They are the FlexFit series made for Sleep Number by Leggett & Platt. FlexFit 1 is an Up foundation–only the head can be raised. For two-sleeper beds, it can be split-top, with the right and left sides controlled separately. FlexFit 2 and FlexFit 3 are fully adjustable, both head and foot. FlexFit 3 has more features. The two sides of a Split King bed can be coordinated to operate as one, with the FlexTop option (controlling the heads separately). Sleep Number advertises its snore feature on TV, showing one partner adjusting the head of the other to end snoring.

The Sleep Number m6 airbed with memory foam comes with Select Comfort's 100-night sleep trial and 25-year limited warranty.
