The Discovery Collection (Discovery Series and Discovery Plus Series) of waterbed mattresses by Vinyl Products manufacturing are tagged by the company as "Economy With Quality." Two standout differences between this collection and the Dream Weaver Collection are the gauge of the vinyl and the form of the wave-reduction fiber.
Dream Weaver waterbeds are made of 25 mil. vinyl, and in Discovery models it is 20 mil. with T corners. Corners in the Discovery Plus series are 100 mil, bolstering what is naturally the weakest point in the water mattress circumference.
Fiber in Discovery waterbed mattresses is in layers. Model names indicate the number of layers: 1000 = 1 layer, 2000 = 2 layers, etc. In the Dream Weaver models, the fiber is in a block, measured in inches. Like the Fiber Firm DW models, fiber in Discovery water mattresses is at the top, not in the bottom as in the Gold Star models.
The Discovery Series has six models, Discovery 1000 through Discovery 5000 and the Discovery Full Motion. Discovery Plus has eight models, Discovery Plus 1000 though 5000, Full Motion, Lumbar 2 and Lumbar 3.
Discovery Plus Lumbar mattresses are asymmetrical. Besides extra layers of fiber in the middle section of the mattress, the head has one more layer than the foot. Lumbar 2 has three layers in the head, two in the foot, and six in the middle. In Lumbar 3, these are 5, 8 and 4 layers per section.
An online search seems to indicate that more retailers carry Vinyl Products Discovery Waterbed Mattresses than Dream Weaver models. This is probably due to their greater affordability. A good portion of hardside waterbed mattress sales are replacement mattresses for existing waterbeds. The cost is naturally a little higher for equivalent products totally using materials made in the United States than for those made overseas or using imported parts and materials, and Discovery mattresses are better able to compete for the same dollars than Dream Weaver mattresses.
The warranty on Discovery waterbed mattresses is for thirteen years with 3 years full coverage and 10 prorated. For Discovery Plus models, the full coverage is for 5 years.

We sleep and a split king Discovery Plus Series 4000. Wife keeps her side firmer and warmer than I . We are sleeping on mattresses that were new in February 2007. Love the comfort of different firmness and temperature.
