Paramount Sleep

In 2013, Paramount Sleep, a mattress manufacturer in Norfolk, Virginia, turned 80. In 1933, during the Great Depression, Max Comess bought a closed mattress manufacturing business and began making mattresses in the basement of his furniture store. His brother-in-law, Albert Diamonstein, was his partner, and later his successor. The current owners are the third generation of the Diamonstein family in this company.

A generation later, Paramount Sleep became a licensee for King Koil, manufacturing and distributing mattresses under the Comfort Solutions brand. This contimued for 40 years.

In 2011, Paramount Sleep ended its license with King Koil, and began focusing on its own brands and building new ones. Today they have 8 brands, ranging from traditional innerspring mattresses to latex mattresses, memory foam mattresses and gel. The Paramount Sleep brands are: Nature's Spa, iGravity, HD Super Duty, GoodNite, Dr. Maas Collection, Boutique Hotel, Back Performance, and A.H. Beard.

The sleep consultant for Paramount Sleep is Dr. James Maas. A sleep specialist, he has retired as a professor from Cornell University. Among his books is Sleep for Success.

With over 90% of the materials in their mattresses being produced in the United States, Paramount Sleep is Made in U.S.A. Certified. Paramount Sleep is also expanding its market in the U.S. through partnerships with other family-owned bedding manufacturers, such as Omaha Bedding, Dreamline, Biscayne Bedding, and Cannon Sleep Products, and is seeking other partners from the Northwest to the Northeast and south into Texas.

In 2015, in a partnership with the Royal Warrant bed manufacturer Hypnos Beds, Ltd. in the United Kingdom, Paramount Sleep introduced Hypnos Beds made in the United States for the American market.  They were first shown at the Spring 2015 High Point Market.
