Introduction of the Dream Bed is a scene in The Giants Strike Back. Five-and-a-half months before Tempur-Sealy International, a bedding manufacturing giant, released Cocoon by Sealy, Mattress Firm, a bedding retail giant, launched Dream Bed into the online marketplace.
According to news accounts, release of the Dream Bed followed a series of quarterly declines in Mattress Firm earnings and stock value. The launch on October 1, 2015 should not be seen as a quick response by Mattress Firm to bad news, since obviously there had been a year or more of development of both the mattress and the marketing campaign.
The tagline for Dream Bed is "Sleep you dream about." It may sound corny to some, but it has caught on with others. In marketing their dream baby, Mattress Firm (MF) had it featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The target shoppers are Millenials, those who are most likely to buy a mattress online.
Among market attractions for the Dream Bed are free delivery and the "180 Night Guarantee." Additionally, all foams in Dream Bed mattresses are Certi-Pur certified.
Unlike Leesa, Casper and Yogabed, MF's Dream Bed has two models, the Original Dream Bed and the Cool Dream Bed. These are more than comfort level variations, but distinct models.
Mattress Firm does more than just sell the Dream Bed. This product is also linked to a Buy-a-bed/give-a-bed promotion which funds a Dream it Forward program taking beds to charitable partners who use them for the homeless in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis.
Customers can see the two Dream Bed models for themselves at a Mattress Firm store before ordering. Mattress Firm, based in Houston, has several stores in the United States. These also include Sleep Train and Sleep Country locations.
