The Brand

Air-Pedic™ is a trademark of Relief-Mart, Inc., a Westlake, California seller of "pain relief, comfort and support products." Air-Pedic mattresses are in the luxury airbed category and a competitor of Sleep Number. Relief-Mart also makes and sells memory foam mattresses under Selectabed and Tempflow brands. While Tempflow has its own website, Air-Pedic™ airbeds are listed on Selectabed.

Models

Currently, there are eight Air-Pedic™ models, and each utilizes six chambers. The two-chamber series, Air-Pedic™ 200 and Air-Pedic™ 300, are no longer listed. The six-chambered series of airbed models are Air-Pedic™ 500 Support Series, Air-Pedic™ 600 Support Series, Air-Pedic™ 650 Series, Air-Pedic™ 700 Memory Foam Series, Air-Pedic™ 800 Luxury Series, Air-Pedic™ 850 Luxury Series, Air-Pedic™ 1000 Ultra-Plush Pillow-Top Series, and Air-Pedic™ 1100 Luxury Traditional Pillow-Top Series. The Air-Pedic™ 400 Traditional Series, Air-Pedic™ 900 Memory Foam Series, and Air-Pedic™ 1200 Ultra-Plush Memory Foam Series were discontinued in 2019. Selectabed compares each of these, except 500 and 700, to Sleep Number models.

6-Zone Air Support

Spinal Straightening With Air-Pedic™ Lumbar 3 and 6-Zone Technology Common to each of the current Air-Pedic™ airbed models is their 6-Zone Air Support System for dual beds. Each side of the bed has three air chambers (Twin size has only three chambers). The head and foot chambers are adjusted separately from the middle chamber to configure support for the body. The primary goal is to avoid hammocking (sagging in the middle) which happens with lower settings in 2-chamber airbeds. The Red Hammock There are several factors in selecting the configuration and overall firmness of the airbed. For instance, a side sleeper needs less firm head & foot chambers with a firmer center chamber, while a back sleeper needs more overall firmness with a smaller difference between the middle and the head & foot. Also, persons of different sizes and proportions need different support configurations. Overall, this is to create better lumbar support as well as overall comfort for the individual user. 2-Chamber Air Support vs 6-Chamber Air Support

Dual Comfort

The chambers on one side of the bed are adjusted separately from the other (except for Twin and Twin XL). This is the signature feature of Select Comfort/Sleep Number, and is now the standard for Queen-size and King-size airbeds (Double/Full-size airbeds may or may not be dual comfort, depending on the brand).

Mattress Construction

Support Core

According to Selectabed, each air chamber core is 6" high at full inflation, and each chamber is made of "100% Medical Grade, Ultra-Flexible Urethane." These chambers are RF welded to be resistant to bacteria. They claim the air pumps are quiet and "fast working." What differentiates the Air-Pedic airbed models from each other are the comfort layers and the covers.

Cover

All Air-Pedic models have stretch-knit covers made of rayon from bamboo (“Viscous of Bamboo”). In all but the two lowest models, this is the patented Kool-Flow Cover, which is a blend of bamboo rayon with polyester and spandex and has micro-pores knitted in for greater airflow. This is part of the Airflow Transfer System (see “Cooling” below).

Foam Layers

Each airbed model has foam layers, with at least one comfort layer and a transition layer. Total foam layers range from two to four. One model has a pillow top. Relief-Mart/Selectabed claims that all their foams are CertiPur-US certified to be free from toxic or otherwise harmful substances. The comfort layers differ in size and composition by model. Two of the models, Air-Pedic™ 700 and Air-Pedic™ 1000, have a memory foam layer. Some of the models have gel-infused foam.

Cooling

Selectabed’s patented Airflow Transfer SystemÔ (ATS) is an available option for Air-PedicÔ adjustable airbeds. For Air-Pedic beds with ATS, the comfort layers are perforated and channels are cut into the top surface of the transition layer. Air can flow both ways through the top panel of the cover, vertically through the comfort layers, horizontally through the channel cuts, and through the side panels. This allows warm air to escape and cool air to come in. Testing has shown that airflow is the most effective method of cooling a mattress.

Foundations

Selectabed has foundations and beds suitable for the Air-PedicÔ airbeds. These include adjustable beds from three major manufacturers: Leggett & Platt, Reverie and Ergomotion.

Availability

Air-Pedic adjustable airbeds are sold online through Selectabed. They are also sold through the Selectabed-Tempflow-Air-Pedic showroom and store in Agoura Hills, California, which is next to the factory (Air-Pedic™ airbeds are made in the USA).

Warranty and Sleep Trial

There is a 120 night sleep trial for Air-Pedic™ airbeds, and they are covered by Relief-Mart's 30-year Limited Warranty.
